Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most prominent and spiritually powerful ghat of Varanasi,
located near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
It is considered the ceremonial heart of the city and remains active throughout the day
with rituals, prayers, and devotees from all over the world.
History & Origin of the Name
- The name Dashashwamedh comes from Sanskrit words “Dasha” (ten) and “Ashwamedh” (horse sacrifice).
- According to mythology, Lord Brahma performed ten Ashwamedh Yagnas here.
- This was done to welcome and honor Lord Shiva.
- The ghat is mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures and Puranas.

- One of the holiest places for Ganga Snan (holy bath).
- Rituals performed here are believed to remove sins.
